Tikorangi School have a conservation group called the Tikorangi Kiwi Crewsaders, their main aim being to protect local kiwi and other native species on land at Tikorangi. This is being done by predator control. The Crewsaders are broken into five taskforce groups who meet regularly to plan and perform their respective duties.
Technicians - are responsible for numbering the traps before they are fixed and the location of the trap is marked on an aerial photo. They are also monitoring the effectiveness of each type of trap.
Statisticians - collate all the trapping data that is collected by spreadsheeting information such as the type of trap, trap number, amount and type of predator. They are also monitoring trends through graphing.
Communications - contact sponsors for further funding, thank sponsors by letter and keep them updated on progress. Also give updates to the Principal for the school's weekly newsletter.
Marketing - organise fundraising projects such as special morning teas and design and sale of t-shirts. They also held a competition to create a logo and identity for the group.
Kids restore New Zealand helped fund further equipment required to undertake extensive pest control in the area.
